New to the XD!

I've had a S&W MP9 for less than a year. Must have put 1000 rounds through it. First problem: the gun shot eight inches low at 15yds. Sent it back to S&W and they fixed it. Took awhile for me to gain confidence in it but eventually I did. I planned on using it at a local USPSA New Shooter's Clinic in a couple weeks. Then it started jamming. At least twice in 100 rounds, different magazines and once after a cleaning. Then I started reading about other MPs that were functioning fine for hundreds of rounds then mysteriously started jamming. S&W would fix the unknown problem, but I found myself having to work too darn hard to like the gun. It was dead to me. But I needed something within 2 weeks to shoot USPSA with!

At the gunshop it was between a Glock 17 and the XD9 Service. Went with the XD. The one range trip I had before the clinic, the trigger felt gritty during slow fire and I was thinking I could have made a mistake. But I took it anyway. Turns out that XD performed flawlessly. That trigger had already begun to smooth out nicely, and during fast rates of fire it was a non-issue anyway. During one training stage a couple of steel plates were causing many people troubles, and I was nervous about being able to hit them with the new gun. I had nothing to worry about however, I knocked them both down with the first shots.

I've become an XD fan, I don't miss my M&P9 at all. In fact, I liked it so much I went out and bought an XD Tactical 45 too!

I've got a new XD9, too (4" service). How long does it take for the trigger to smooth out? So far I've put 300+ rounds through it.

The trigger is the only thing that I'm not absolutely in love with. I love this gun, but the trigger is just a little better than 'ok'. I've shot glocks and 1911s with much smoother/crisper triggers.

It's funny but my first range outing I wasn't real impressed with the trigger pull during slow fire. But as soon as I started using it in the IPSC training my problems with the trigger disappeared and became a non-issue. I've only fired a few hundred rounds through it but the trigger is already much smoother. Maybe part of that is me getting used to it too since it is a very different pull than from the M&P.

Out of the box the XD 45 Tactical had a noticably better trigger than the 9. I found that interesting.
