A few questions.....
for those who have both a Service and Sub-compact.
I LOVE my service model, but seems to print alot when concealed, and limits movements, like bend over at the waist, stooping and so on. My dad has a Sub that he doesn't carry, he went with a snubby. He said he would trade me me guns straight up, mine with 3 hi cap mags, his with 2 10rnds and 1 15. Here is one question, is the Sub model ALOT more concealable with the 10rd mags, or marginally better? Is the recoil much more significant in 9mm? Does it shoo the same for you as your Service? I am really torn, I only shoot for fun with my Service and CCW, so I can't justify a second gun for now (saving for Colorado Elk trip in Sept), but I shoot really well with my Service and want to reasonably sure of the same with the Sub. Thanks for the input!

With a Pierce grip extension on the 10 rnd mag, the grip feels practically identical to the service model. I dont notice much difference in shooting. It definitely conceals easier for me too. I am 6'2", 190lbs. A rather slim build, so I need all the help I can get. I print with the SC if I bend forward, I wear a supertuck at 4:00.
I can conceal the service, but only with big winter type clothes. Hope that helps.

Don't trade without both shooting it (or renting one and shooting the rental) and attempting to conceal it. There's a lot of difference between looking at it and thinking about it and actually DOING IT.
Just my thoughts. |

I will definitely shoot and conceal it first, plus it's my pop, so he will treat me right.
Boardsurfer, does the grip extension negate the sub-compactness of it at all?

Oh, and another question,
Are you able to carry a Sub IWB @ 1-2 o'clock?

That depends on body shape but the XD Subcompact is a short barreled Tactical weapon not a pocket pistol. There are many other guns that have a slimmer profile that would work better in the position you mention. In most cases these guns do not have the capacity the XD has.

xd40 sub
I carry an xd40 sub and sometimes I put the larger cap mag in and with the extra length it prints, alot more than with the lower cap mag. But the gun feels more stable with the high cap mag in it, fits better. Depends on my mood.
I usually carry at four . Last edited by chuckels59h : 05-11-2008 at 02:47 PM. Reason: addition |

I carry the SC in homemade kydex at 1 o'clock and it pretty much disappears in shorts and a t-shirt. The holster I made rides quite low though. I think the shorter grip with the 10 rd. mag makes a huge difference for me. I put the 16 rounder in every so often but I just can't hide it so I always put the 10 rd. back in. The 16 rd. goes along as a spare.

Dude he's your dad, just trade for two weeks and you'll know all you need to know first hand. BTW search around here for people who regret getting the XD snubbies ( it will be a remarkably SHORT list ). The SCs are amazingly accurate and can carry anywhere from 10 to 21 rounds in 9mm, pretty darn flexible platform.
