The extractor is not TOO difficult to remove. Get a wood mallet and pound on the slide while it is upside down. I have also used the wooden handle of a household hammer, which worked too. It will not mark the slide and the extractor slowly pops right up. I have TFO sights as well and they are fine after that process. If you watch the AGI Springfield XD video Old School mentioned Bob Dunlap does it that way and it seems to be easier then developing some sort of tool to pry it out.

Just make sure when you are taking the extractor out that you have the Striker Safety Retaining Pin removed or the extractor will not come out. There is a small notch in the wedged "round" part of the extractor that that pin goes into to make sure it does not jar loose. That MUST be removed before you take the extractor out.

Maybe that's why some are finding it so difficult to remove, that should be the last part of the slide removed besides the Loaded Status Indicator.

All this prives a point - dissassembly and beating on the weapon to hope it pops our gradually. Again, all they needed to do was put on an exctractor which comes out with NO dissassembly - either a pin or plunger - and out it comes. WHY make it so complicated?????

It's not hard to remove. What problem are you having or are you just going to continue to troll?

OK, let me re-phrase that, it's NOT difficult, just tap on the slide and it falls out, it's definitely not beating, thats for sure.

OK

It is still plenty more complicated than most slides. BUt... the video sure makes it look easy - are all the guys who have trouble on this forum using the wrong technique??? I've read plenty of threads about how people could not do it.

I would add though that the comments on the video about hard chroming are misleading. Hard Chroming the slide and parts, and even the barrel will not affect function. Folks do this all the time, and simply provides a more durable finish.

But, overall BIG KUDOS on the video - I needed this. Is the NOT a FAQ page on this sight with all these links?

That absolutely would not have removed the one in my XD when it was new, it was WAYYY too tightly wedged in.

No, it's because there are tolerances on mass made products. If yours comes out easily, that's good. Ask the folks at Springer precision about how maybe half the XD sights can be pushed out using reasonable force and the other half require tactical nuclear weapons...... tolerance on slide cut outs and parts.

It also adds a few thouandths of thickness and parts which already fit TOO TIGHT will then be IMPOSSIBLY TIGHT...
