I'm going to be buying the XD9 Service in a week or two(ahhhh) and i just purchased a blackhawk serpa so ive been carrying it around lately. Its not a big deal, in PA open carry is 100% legal without a permit, so if my gun shows im not bothered anyway. I dont feel the need to be 100% concealed even with an LTCF(CCW). People worry too much about CONCEALING. Think about this for a second, if your gun shows out in public, not a big deal. the bad guy is gunna say oh ****, not attacking this guy and move on. You should be comfortable with carrying a gun anyway, and if someone see's it, so be it, its who you are. However, when you most commonly would need your gun for self defense is at night, so it doesnt make much difference if your gun is printing or not. Take this into consideration.

Im getting the service because its my first gun, and all around gun, self defense carry and range time. Its a perfect medium.

I have to disagree... surprise is a weapon of defense you want on your side. If the bad guy knows you're carrying, then he has one up on you. If he has no idea if you're carrying or not, then you have one up on him. As well, if a criminal is shopping for a gun, then you've made yourself a target. As I like to say, "security through obscurity" - let the bad and good guys know as little as possible.

Sorry, I know that part is off topic... now for the on topic part...

See which one you can handle and shoot more accurately. As others have mentioned, if you get the Crossbreed Supertuck, it will fit the SC and Service. If you shoot the Service better than the SC and are concerned about the longer grip, you can always do a grip chop to bring it down to the size of the SC.

I have the XD9SC and I really like it. I carry with the 10 rd. mag and use the 16 rd. as the spare. It conceals really well for me in my homemade kydex holster. The only thing I dislike is the "wiggle" in the 16 rd. mag due to the slight gap between the grip and the grip extension on the mag. I can feel it move a little as the slide cycles and chambers the new round.

Is there much difference in muzzle flip and all around recoil between the 9mm service and subcompact? That seems to be another point to take into consideration.

I've said it before but I definitely think if your going to carry concealed you better conceal well. If your going to print whats the point to carrying concealed if everyone can tell? You might as well open carry IMHO.

Besides concealability, I can shoot my SC 9mm as well as my Tactical 9mm at 25 yards.

I went the same route and now have both. Don't sell your Service and get the SC. Get both, you will be happy you did!

I'm with you. I kind of wish i had gotten the 40 SC instead of the service, but will either be getting an SC or 45C IN ADDITION TO (NOT IN PLACE OF) the service

I have both, and both conceal well in my Supertuck. But like others have said, the SC is clearly more comfortable, and easier to conceal and carry.
