17 round stock mag for the XD9 Service?
Got an XD9 4" service about two weeks ago. It is my understanding that the stock mags are 16rounds. However, I find that I can squeeze 17 rounds into them. I've taken them to the range this way and all the rounds seem to chamber well into the XD.
Anyone else noticed this? Am I pushing my luck and risking damage to the magazine/gun? Until I hear from someone, I keep them stacked with only 15 rounds... Just curious.

I know i can get 13 into my 12 rounder for my XD40SC. It goes in so easily I did it by accident the first time.
Unfortunatly I cant say if its bad or good, My guess is that you lose any abuility to complain if you need to use it in self defence and it doesn't work. |

Not sure if it hurts it or not. Seems to me that it could possibly bind the spring if you overloaded it but I have no proof.

I can get 17, 9mm into my mags.
I do this only when I am loading my gun up for self defense. I load the magazine with the slide locked back and then chamber the 17th round, so I have 16 +1. I have loaded the mags with 17 at the range and have had trouble getting the mags to insert all the way with the slide forward. In normall condition, the part that strips the next round from the mag (sorry don't know the proper name) pushes the rounds down a little. This is so when the slide goes back, the next round moves up and then is stripped out of the mag. With 17 rounds in the mag, there isn't quite enough room for the rounds to be pushed down any more. You can prove this to yourself (in a safe situation), buy inserting a mag with a few rounds in it. With the slide forward and the mag release button pressed, you can feel the rounds getting pushed down. With the slide forward, the mag will go all the way in with no extra force. I hope this makes sence.

not becouse i want people to load the mags the way i said but why not load them that way seems like your taking a big risk jammin the 17th round in the mag and then up into the gun like that and chambering it.

Overloading the sprind will eventually cause damage to it but if you only do it every once in a while you will probably never notice. Jimmy

I too can get 17 in my 9mm mags. I did it a few times right before a quick 18 count rap for the expensive fun of it, but only did it a couple times with no problems. I did load 17 in my brand new mags and left then for a few days loaded, to help loosen up the new spring. Not sure my idea was good, but the mag did seem to loosen up and loads nicer now, maybe only psychological however.

My XD9 service was made in dec. of 2004 and it came with 15round mags. There is no way I can get a 16th in.

I would REALLY be worried about feed lip damage and would NEVER do it with a gun for self defense!
