I hope there is an easy fix for this...

I am in the middle of fitting my new Springer Precision trigger bar. After getting the pre-travel portion taken care of I moved onto the over-travel portion. I thought I had enough material taken off so I decided to put the slide on and dry fire it to see how it all turned out. It wont fire. Apparently I didn't take enough material off. I assembled it without the slide safety and without the disassembly lever (I don't think that is having an effect on anything). Now I can't dissemble the gun because I cannot perform the necessary dry-fire in the disassembling process.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? How can I get the slide off the frame without being able to dry-fire it? Please help

There is a gap between the slide and frame in the rear of the pistol so that you can manually depress the sear (with the grip safety depressed) with a small lever such as a small Allen wrench.

You might want to try fitting the over travel with the striker loose in the slide next time, it is much easier to get it right because you can see exactly what is going on and how much you need to remove.

ok, well that worked but i still can't get the slide off. I am certain now that not having the disassembly bar installed is causing my problem. I think the recoil spring assembly is getting hung up on the frame somewhere and not letting the slide move forward. any ideas on how to cure it?

I had the same thing happen when I was adjusting the set screw in my XD this morning. it took me a while, but I was able to get it to fire using the allen key method.

Sorry, I cant offer any help on the other problem your having....I just thought it was odd that I had the exact same "wont fire to take apart, but need to take apart to make it fire" problem this am.

If you have a service model and did not install the take down lever and put on the slide with the barrel and guide rod, you might have caused yourself a bit of a problem. The guide rod can slip down and jamb in the locking block, preventing the removal of the slide.

You need to look and see if the guide rod has dropped down in the hole of the take down lever. If it has, you need to carefully pry it back up to remove the slide. Good luck!

thats exactly what happened. with a little patience and some manipulation I was able to get the spring assembly to seat with the barrel properly and the slide then came right off. Thanks for the help man, I thought for a second that I really screwed things up!!
