No, they can be drifted out either way. We took the front out one direction, and the turned the slide around in the vice, so the rear sight came out on the other side. I recommend DEVCON titanium putty for a bomb proof epoxy. It sets up harder than Chinese Algebra. The XS sights are on my XD 9 service. Last edited by Mountaineer10; 05-05-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

Yeah, I read this too. Straight from SA about only taking them out and putting them back in one direction. If anyone knows the thread for this please let me know.

I read this also a couple years ago but can't find the thread. I believe the directions for my Dawson front sight said the same. BTW I ended up busting my factory front sight removing it, but I have been able to drift my rear sight with a punch.

Mountaineer,
Your opening post was a hoot...sorta reminded me of some of my sight-adjustment travails over the years. I'm obstinate as hell about about my handguns being properly regulated and I wouldn't ship a gun back to the manufacturer if they paid me. So big hammers, machinists vises and heavy-duty punches have become my friends To make matters worse, I prefer fixed-sight revolvers to all others and I have been known to turn barrels to get them shooting where they look. ![]() The Sixgun Journal Repatriated Ruger GP It's amazing what you can accomplish with a good set of hammers & oak blocks

invssgt,
The skills flow to the needs. If your going to have the needs, you may as well acquire the skill, and you know where I am coming from. The proper means don't hurt either |

If you buy a pair of meprolight sights or a (universal sight install tool) for the XD, the instructions will tell you the direction is to the right. Glocks and a few others are either way and a very few are to the left.

I put the XS 24/7 Big Dots on my 40sc. My accuracy improved. To me they are more of a combat sight system. So, why wouldnt they work for a pistol that is designed around concealability and self defense? I like them on my SC, and recomend them. I had SA install them, they only charged me $105 for the sights and installation. I had it done while it was in for warranty work, so I didnt even have to pay shipping! |

Alright, I made a quick trip to the range after my morning run. These sights are the bees knees! I shot a three shot group on a shoot and see and I was impressed: Three inches at 15 yards with my first three shots with unfamiliar sights. I shot some fast doubles from the holster and they were not only fast for me, but were rarely more than a finger length apart. I put up two new cardboard targets shaped roughly like the IDPA ones, and again at 15 yards transitioning back and forth between the two was gravy. Not one miss no matter how fast I pushed myself. It is simple; Big Dot draws eye to it quickly, index, fire and repeat.
I'm thinking about a set for my 1911 (although I like my Novak's precision). At any rate, I only fired 50 rounds (I worked all night, then ran a 5k), and I will need to do some distance work before I proclaim them the Deus Ex Machina, but these things have some serious potential. |
