If there was a problem big enough for a recall, I think we'd have seen the reasonings on this board WAY before an official SA recall. Definite total sales BS. Probably just his personal likes or a sales push by the store, S&W rep. Print out this thread and call him on it!

Anyone know what the incentive is from the various manufacturers? When buying a car there's the price listed on the window, you can also lookup what the dealer pays for the car, but there is even a third factor -- the hold back. Knowing something about this should give you an idea why a dealer or salesman pushes one product over another.

Not sure about that. I would just check the lowest price online. Buds Gunshop, CDNN, Vance's, and Gunbroker are good places to check for decent deals. You'll find that most local dealers are often $100's higher even after you factor in shipping and transfer fees. For the most part, shipping is nullified by local taxes. Some online dealers quote shipped, so the transfer fee would be nullified by your local taxes and you can pretty much compare price to price then. Out of about 7 or 8 guns I've bought this year, only one was at a local dealer.

One of the first places I went, the salesman was bad mouthing the XD's and Glock's about a lack of manual safeties. Didn't even want to show me an XD! He then went on to try to sell me a used H&K at a higher price. I have nothing against H&K's but this guy sales tactics turned me off. I tried to give the smaller shops first opportunity, but I actually had a better experience and learned more from the big box guys at Bass Pro and Gander Mountain.
I learned about the Ruger SR9 recall on this board, I'm sure I would have heard of a legitimate XD recall. |

It's one thing to have a personal preference (if asked) when behind the counter, concerning one weapon over another. It's poor form, bad salesmanship, and bad representaion of the other firearms being sold, to bad mouth a brand you carry.
What does that say about the shop? We carry crap if you want it, but we don't recommend it? Jesus, I would never buy a single piece from a shop like that. If this was the owner, Run! If it was a sales jocky, I would have asked for the manager, and told him your conversation, and how you felt, before taking your dollars down the road. |

He probably just heard a story of someone who gunked up his grip safety, and sent it back to SA to be cleaned out/detailed stripped.

S&W was having a rebate so I'm sure there was some incentive to his shop if he pushed the S&W M&P vs. any other gun. Extended and revised promotion: From now through April 30, 2008 S&W is offering a $50.00 rebate and 2 free magazines by mail on the economical Sigma and M&P lines of pistols. That's an $82 value**. Rebates are per verifiable serial number and not per household... As far as I know you can buy and submit for as many as you like*. Note that the rebates are being handled directly by Smith & Wesson and not by some fly by night fulfillment house. People are reporting that the magazines are showing up in 3-4 weeks with the check following 8-12 weeks later. Additional rebates: $50 for 1000 Series shotguns $75 for i-Bolt rifles $100 for any SW1911 pistols or MP15 rifles

I figured if there was a recall, I'd have read about it on this board and/or been notified by SA. Thanks for the verification in your replies.
I don't know the hierarchy at this place and have no idea where this young salesperson fit in, though he acted like he was in charge. I've been hunting, shooting and tinkering with firearms for a few decades longer than he's been alive and know enough about firearms to know there is always more to know. I am accustomed to meeting (self described) experts in gunstores and generally don't contradict their erroneous statements. My response to his statement about a recall was, "Too bad I have two XD's, huh?" For anyone curious, the place was Blackwing shooting center 3 miles west of Delaware. |
