Slide Won't Come Off

I was going to field strip my HS2000 tonight so I could give it a good cleaning. I did everything like normal to release the slide (make sure unloaded, lock slide back, flip up slide release lever, pull trigger, try to push slide forward) and the slide would not come off. After pulling the trigger the slide would go forward maybe a 1/16 or so and that was it. I could not get the slide off. I tried racking the slide a few more times and pulled the trigger and it still would not release. The gun is stock except for a Don's guide rod and Wolfe spring. I have never had any problems like this with the gun before. I always make sure the grip safety is depressed when racking the slide. Any ideas of what the problem is and possible solutions? Thanks.

The sear may be stuck in the up position try and push it down with a thin object.

If the spring is backwards the spring end can slip off of the rod head and it gets in the way of the slide coming off.
Here are a couple ways of trying to fix it.

Ok, got the slide off by using Agalindo's method. Somehow the spring started the slide over the guide rod. Anyone seen this before:

The spring was in the correct way:

I have not seen that on my springs. If you can put a flat on the first coil it should stop that.

I am only asking, would it hurt anything to simply take a channel lock and compress that end of the spring enough so as to not cause it to ride over the guide rod?

To get out of the predicament; remove the firing pin. That will allow you to remove the slide and then investigate the cause.

Thet is a Wolfe 22 # spring. If I understand you correctly, you say I should take the round edge off the first coil and make it flat as to have more surface touching the rod?

The end of the spring that went over the guide rod is compressed from Wolfe. It is the opposite end that is not. I have never seen the compressed end of the spring ride over the guide rod. From Don's post, it sounds like neither has he.

I can see where it could happen, but it should not. If the bushing was not seated well, the spring coils could impact each other and this may push the end out. But if you could put a flat end on the spring, what is called a (squared and) ground end it should be less likely to happen. Here is an image from some random website: Compression Spring Key Parameters - Spring Houston

You do not have to go so far as to be perfect flat, but getting it more towards flat means it has to clear the whole head, where if is round it only has to get started and the pressure can make it expand and slip by.
