Damaged my XD

Alright, here it goes...

I was trying to remove the locking block on my XD so I could install an overtravel screw. The front pin came out pretty easily, but the trigger pin would not move. I did some searching here to see if anyone else had this problem and didn't come up with anything.

So I decided to just hit it harder to drive the pin out. Well, it worked, but the small retaining spring came out with the pin.

So what should I do now? The damage to the frame seems to be minimal, actually. So, my thoughts are to attempt to insert the retaining spring by itself, then reinsert the pin.

Any thoughts on why this happened, how to fix it, or how to keep it from happening again?

Thanks in advance,

Matter

I'm sorry, I said "retaining spring" and I meant "retaining ring".

Here is a picture. You can see the plastic on the ring that was scraped away when I drove it out.

Did you buy this gun used? That looks more like someone tried to glue the pin into the gun because of prior damage. I have to admit that pin shows a lot of wear. I have never seen one with that much wear and I can't think of anything that would cause that much wear on the pin.

No, I bought it new.

It kind of looks like glue in the picture, but in person, you can tell it's plastic from the frame.

As far as the wear, I can't explain it. The gun only has about 2000 - 2500 rounds through it. If I run my fingernail across the pin, it's pretty darn smooth. So I don't think there is that much actual wear on the pin. The finish is just worn away.

My suggestion would be that you send it back to SA as any material removed from the frame would make it difficult to hold even if you got a new pin. You can order a new frame from SA but it must be shipped to a FFL cost I believe is about $75.

Usually the retaining ring remains in the frame. I think you should always remove the pins from left to right to avoid damage but don't quote me that's just the way I have always done it and I have never had one come out.

Do you think they'd cover it under warranty? I wouldn't really expect them to.

If I can get it the ring to stay in place, great. If not, covered by warranty would be nice. If not, $75 isn't so bad.

I'm thinking the 75.00 is just to ship to the FFL dealer. I might be wrong. I guess with a bare frame it might not be that expensive. So the 75 might be for both.
