Question Concealed Carry Question

OK, let me start by saying... I am a noob and I am just looking for input from this group to help build my "intuition" regarding various issues that come up when packing. I will now don my asbestos suit...

So here are a couple situtations that may come up in my life that I want to make sure I am doing the best to balance the legal, SD and best practice concerns.

1) If I am planning on going to dinner, suit tie, going to a play or something, I will generally have wine with a nice dinner. I would not be in a bar or anything, but I would in fact have a few drinks. (Not doing shots or anything like that) My thought is, in that situation we are a pretty soft target for an attack. Walking around downtown at night dressed up, wife's jewlry etc. and so I really would want to have something for SD.

2) Get a call from a friend to go to happy hour. I normally have my weapon with me, would you just leave it in the vehicle? Unload it and take it in? I really don't want my peice to end up with a BG, no matter how small the risk.

Ok, I appreciate any feedback and practical insight. There may be other situations that are similar, please share.

Thanks

I am in Mich. and the laws are very strict with carrying while drinking. .02 I believe is the limit, which is very low. Plus if you had it in your car loaded during a pull over and you were legal to drive but over that limit you will lose your license to carry. So you have to unload and separate the bullets from the gun. Another words I do not carry if I think I am going to drink. .02 is a very low number and it would not even seem like you were over that limit. I would not take the chance myself.

Laws vary from state to state, you really need to check you local regulations. In some states, you're not allowed to carry anywhere that serves alcohol, even if you're not drinking. Other states, you're fine to carry in a bar while drinking. (Legally, we won't get into if it's a good idea or not)

Can it be said that laws, in some situations, cloud judgement?

Maybe not.

Depends on what state you live in. There isn't a national concealed carry law. In Texas, that would be a misdemeanor at best, and a potential felony. Been a while since I took my class, all I remember is don't carry if you drink.

here's a good test i like to give people when they are carrying concealed and want to drink...

1) would you drive after drinking?
2) would you operate heavy machinery after drinking?
3) would you trust your safety, the safety of your family, and the safety of those nearby you to someone who has been drinking?

if you answered no to any of those questions, then i think you have your answer....obviously there is some grey area in those questions but i think you get the point...alcohol and guns don't mix..and if your in a situation where you need to defend yourself, do you really want your faculties impaired by alcohol?

If you carry with you . . . don't drink alcohol.

It's not worth the price if poopies impact the cooling apparatus.

+1

As far as my knowledge, in any self defense situation, you OWN any bullet that leaves your weapon. Even though you're not drunk, a drink or two might be enough to sway your aim to a place it shouldn't be, putting others potentially in harm's way.
