If you're packing, no alcohol. Period. Why open yourself up to all the bs you will face if you have to use your firearm for SD and have a BAC other than zero point zero. You will face enuf bs even if you haven't had a drink in a month.

That's what I practice. Why screw up your judgement and open yourself up to serious legal and civil hassles? The exception I make is in the home. If I've had a couple and there is an incident here then all bets are off. Castle Doctrine and all in GA.

I'm pretty sure it's been scientifically proven that .02-.08 impairs your judgement. However, .08 and above improves your aim.

Honestly, I have no idea what the laws are in my state (Washington). I don't drink all that much, 1 drink Q3months, and don't drink at all if I'm carrying.

I have no problem being the designated shooter.

I feel the same way. I carry often and I am usually the dd when we go out. It seems to work out better that way.

So here are a couple situtations that may come up in my life that I want to make sure I am doing the best to balance the legal, SD and best practice concerns.

1) If I am planning on going to dinner, suit tie, going to a play or something, I will generally have wine with a nice dinner. I would not be in a bar or anything, but I would in fact have a few drinks. (Not doing shots or anything like that) My thought is, in that situation we are a pretty soft target for an attack. Walking around downtown at night dressed up, wife's jewlry etc. and so I really would want to have something for SD.

2) Get a call from a friend to go to happy hour. I normally have my weapon with me, would you just leave it in the vehicle? Unload it and take it in? I really don't want my peice to end up with a BG, no matter how small the risk.

Ok, I appreciate any feedback and practical insight. There may be other situations that are similar, please share.

Thanks
There is a reason that crimes/inappropriate use of FireArm by CCW Holders is so low. We have adjusted our Lifestyle to be beyond reproach. The day a CCW is found to be under the Infuence of alcohol, and is found using their fire Arm inappropriately, HCI will have a Field day, and the rest of us will pay!!! JMHO!!!

Carrying a gun is like riding a motorcycle. You have to make split second decisions based on multiple simultaneous inputs often of considerable complexity. Failure to make the right decision can have very bad consequences up to and including fatal.

There is no acceptable amount of alcohol consumption when you are carrying a gun or riding a motorcycle. Even a single drink impairs your ability to function at 100%.
