I was looking at CA DOJ's "Recently Added Handgun Models" and saw a host of SA-XDs listed as added on 3/27/2008.

In the 3" variety, I see XD9842 and 9832.

I did a search on the web and found nothing. A search of this forum seems to indicate that the 9842 is a version shipped with Trijicon sights.

What are they?

More research suggests that the 9832 ships with Trijicon, while 9842 ships with Heinie sights.

It's still puzzling that these were only added to the CA DOJ's list in 3/2008.
