about the time that SA took over importing the gun, the finish seemed to go to hell in a handbasket. How many HS2000s were having rust issues? I honestly don't remember any. The biggest gripe was the extractor back then.

I don't use and "special wonder products on my gun that does who knows what." I am also a maintanence nut about EVERYTHING I own.
If my XD is rusting it is not because I am doing something wrong. It is because the finish is not as tough as it should be....end of story. |

My point is that the XD has a finish that is marginally tougher than bluing, which has been around forever, and with which no one seems to ever have had a problem. And on this forum we've got people that act like Springfield tried their hardest to come up with the most inferior finish in the world, totally ignoring the fact that people have been sucessfully maintaining bluing for years. The XD finish isn't my favorite, but it's not "defective" just because it's not Tennifer. |

Your particular gun doesn't rust, lucky you. Mine does. I've owned literally dozens of rifles, shotguns and pistols the past 40 years, for someone to try to tell me I don't know how to maintain a firearm is absurd.

While its relatively new...my XD gets handled & sweated on daily. Absolutely no signs of rust. I do lightly wipe it down with an oily (FP-10) rag each night before it rest on the nightstand beside me. No problems whatsoever. Mine may be one of the lucky ones. It has a deep black finish with no "thin" spots at all. Very nice tactical finish. So far its been equal to the holy grail tenifer finish that was on my two E series (

I agree with frenchy...like i said the only plae mine rusted was in the rear dovetail...i pain to clean out....the rest of the slide was fine...including a 2" scratch I put on the top of the slide (it didnt go down to metal but still weakened finish)...all i ever did was rem oil and wipe with a silicone cloth.
I think frenchy is on the money. But still...saturate and let your slide soak in a good oil then apply your finishing product whatever that maybe...force any moisture out of the finish.

My first handgun was (is) a 586 S&W with a blued finish. That gun is about 10 years old, has 1 minor scratch and not a whit of rust. My XD is far younger than that, lives on the shelf right next door to that 586 (and a S.A. park 1911 -also rust free-) and is the ONLY gun that has rust. That also includes several firearms that shoot Corrosive ammo. I know how to care for guns. This thing just atracts rust. Come on man, *Dozens of guns (Several C&R's), *Wide variety of finishes, *Multiple manufacturers and Nationalities, *All living in the SAME envioronment * Only XD comes up dusted red It's MY fault? Come on man, the only variable is the XD's dainty finish.
