I CC a XD SC in stock form and the only upgrade I would consider is night sights. If you are wanting a trigger job then the Combat/Carry option is a good one. Search on the forums here for discussion of the legal ramifications that could arise from a reduced trigger pull on a CC gun. I personally wouldn't do a trigger job on my carry piece because the stock trigger works, and in a true self defense situation you aren't going to have time to think, "Man I wish I would have taken some more creep out of this trigger". If you are sending it out, you might as well polish the feed ramp for the small price, but if you aren't sending it out don't worry about it. Unless you are having problems it shouldn't be necessary. If you are talking about a CC gun and not a HD gun I would skip the X2L as well. It will really limit your holster selection and concealability.
In the end, it is your gun and do with it what you like!

These are bad ass guns out of the box... If I was looking for a carry gun, I would not port it. If produces enhanced muzzle flash (effecting night vision), it poses a risk to the shooter if firing from retention, and it weakens the gun (there have been several reports of cracked barrels...). Finally, if you are going to carry concealed, you'll need to get some training and ported guns tend to be not as reliable in high round count courses (not relevant to carry) as more crud ends up in the gun, and the night sights get obscured with crud. Both of my xds have been to Springer. Dawson night sights and trigger jobs. They are both excellent. One of the things on "trigger jobs and defense", people will say its bad juju, people get in trouble all the time for that (or for using LE hollowpoints)... I always ask them to cite a case where a justified shooting, in which the good guy deliberately shot the VCA, turned on a "trigger job". It boils down to "my best friend, who is a Ranger, says so". Can you cite a case? "well no, but it happens all the time", then cite a case... And around and around we go...If your fundamentals are good, and you keep your finger off the trigger unti you are ready to shoot, then a 4.5 trigger job is totally fine. If you can't do that, get a DA/SA gun or a revolver... D

Damien in Seattle I don't list my guns - I know glocks, FALs, and AKs but I'm not sure my ability to fill a gunsafe with guns make me an expert on anything. All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting. Last edited by GlockConvert; 05-01-2008 at 06:53 AM. |

Many people recommend NOT modding any CCW gun to prevent possible legal hassles. Many self-defense situations are not cut and dried (even if you think they are at the time), so why give any ammo to the DA to prosecute. Personally, about the only thing I would do are sights, grips, etc. New barrel would probably be OK, but any trigger lightening is a no in my book. Just my take, others don't it matter, but why take chances. I second the no porting or the laser/light combo for CCW. Harder to conceal, heavier, and even harder to find holsters for. I use a laser/light TLR-2 for my HD gun though.
