Need a Gun Safe
I been looking at gun safes lately and the all seem to be huge things that are to big for what I want. Can any one recommended any good gun safes to hold a pistol or two. I am not interested in a Gun Vault heard bad things about them.

Well I don't know what you have heard about Gun Vault but I have two of them, one for nearly two years and haven't had any problems at all.

I have this $63 safe from Wal-Mart and it has been great. As you can see, it has great reviews as well. It currently is holding my XD SC + spare mag, my XD Service + spare mag and some other small goodies. If you only need to hold a pistol or two it is the way to go.

Just a reminder:
Buy a bigger safe than what you need. You will grow into it. Too Small and you have to buy another and sell your old one to a buddy at a loss!

I have a Gun Vault the smaller one. I never lock the thing because I have problems getting code to work consistantly. I lock it when I leave the house and open it back up when I get home. Unless you have kids I would just get a normal safe for storage and have a gun stashed somewhere you can get to it if someone breaks in.

I have a really big Ft. Knox gun safe in the garage. It weighs about a ton. It's about 4' wide 6' tall and almost 3' deep. It is bigger than life. I thought it would be way too big - I don't have that many guns, but I do have a lot of junk and it is about full already. Get the biggest one you can and pay more attention to fire rating than anything else. That is the way things get lost. I told my wife she could store stuff in it. She's afraid to look inside it. I have had my gunvault for about 8 to 10 years now. Just can't remember the exact year I bought it. I just changed the batteries in it last Fall. Now I don't access it everyday, it's for my HD gun. I do keep my other carry gun in there for when I need the smaller gun. Maybe access it once or twice a week. Absolutely no problems. What problems are others having?
I too have a big Heritage Safe in the garage. I've had it for 13 years. It's just about full, between guns, paperwork and valuables.

Is the gun vault the one that has a hand print on top & you enter a code somehow? if so, can you get it open if you were in a hurry?
does anybody have the small safe that uses a fingerprint to open it? Either one of these would be a good choice I think. |

+1 on the "go big" you won't regret it..
I have a Fort Knox thought it was too big until I filled it. Also picked up a Gardall fireproof 5'H X 27"W X 27"D for 150.00 at a garage sale, didn't think I would ever need it but couldn't pass it up. Both are full from Guns, Knives, Wifes Jewelry to wills, deeds and other crap I don't want to loose.

Gun Vault makes those that do what you want. It's fast depending on what code you use. Not sure for the fingerprint one, don't have that one. It also has a pick proof key to unlock door if the batteries fail.
