+1 on the Wally World safe - same size as Gun Vault and it works fine, lasts a long time. Plus you can order it from Wally on line and have it shipped to your local Wally World - no ship charges. Got mine in a couple of days.

I have the GunVault Bio, the one with the fingerprint reader. It's worked fine for the year or so that I've had it. It plugs in to the wall and has batteries for backup. All I had to do was train it for a couple of fingerprints (my own in a number of different positions and one of my wife's). I open and close it daily and have had no issues.

does anybody have the small safe that uses a fingerprint to open it? Either one of these would be a good choice I think.

The Gun Vault is good if you make the code really easy like 1-2-3-4-5 but if you try to make it so you have to press multiple keys at once it has problems, or atleast I do, oh and if you mess up the code 3 or 5 times in a row you cant try again for 2mins, you have to use the Key at that point. So I just leave it open when Im at home(no Kids)

I looked at the Biovault 2.0 when I was in the market and me and the sales guy both had a hard time getting it to open after programing our finger prints in to it. I figured I would give more time for that technology to get better cheaper before I go for a Biometric safe

Another +1 for the 'DAC Sportsafe'...its cheap and works well. It can hold multiple codes, has an override key, and has a detachable base plate that allows you to secure it in a vehicle (if you buy another plate). Ideal for a quick access safe for a single handgun and a few magazines...but its no substitute for a large safe...ya need both IMO.

Is it one of these?

I don't know I have seen to many videos with safes like that were you can drop them and they will pop open.

Cant drop it if its bolted to something as it should be...not much point in having a small safe if someone can pick it up and walk away with it. Even a large safe that is not secured to something is pretty worthless.

I am a lock pick (I am a security consultant...we audit clients IT setup by basically getting permission to do some B&E and picking locks is part of the drill) and not many affordable safes will actually withstand a full on assault from someone who knows what they are doing, but for the money, the DAC safe is as secure as anything you will find unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money...and even then you wont have a 'quick access' safe. Used correctly its a good little safe for very little money (and CA approved for gun storage) and a good value.

That said: The locking mechanism in the DAC safe is pretty decent, I dont see how 'dropping it' would open the safe with the way the bolt secures the door. I can bypass it with a few minutes (or less) of picking...but that goes for damn near any sub $1K safe with a bypass key. Its good for its purpose, but if you need something super secure you may want to look elsewhere and open your wallet really wide

I purchased a Security Plus by Stack On. Perfect size for 1-3 handguns. It has combination lock with manual key override. Picked up mine at Dick's for $69.00.

I bought one and love it also. The gun vault was my second choice but the Dac Sportsafe from Walmart had a light (wish it stayed on longer) for much less, $63.00 VS. $169 for so that sealed the deal.
