Thanks for all the good info guys. I appreciate the links and have looked at them all. I'm gravitating towards the 9mm just cuz I can get lot's of ammo fairly inexpensively.
I've bagged the reloadiing idea for now also. Anyone have experience with the V10 ported barrel? Are there any other options I should consider? Here's a link showing all the different kinds of 9mm's to choose from. Last edited by ttabs : 04-29-2008 at 09:08 AM. Reason: add link |

I also noticed the 9mm comes in a 3", 4", and 5" barrel. Wonder what difference that would make at a 20 yrd target.

I started out with a buckmark. I shot it for several months until I was comfortable carrying & shooting a handgun. I then graduated up to a .40. I like my .40. I just bought it but think that I am going to enjoy it. I am pretty sure that I will be getting a .45 tactical in the future, though. I just ran across a good deal.

Well fellas - here's an update.
I went with the 9mm compact for no other reason than it's be easy to teach folks how to shoot. I found that ammo can be purchased in bulk for about $170/1000 ... so I ordered up a couple thou to get me started. I'm picking up the new gun this weekend. I'm already eyeballin a 45 tac. Since I got a green 9mm, I'll get the brown 45 to help differentiate. And get this .... I also got hooked into buyin a Sig 556 |

So your saying that you haven't ever bought a handgun so your going with the 9mm because ammo can be had for cheap. Fair enough.
Then you go and drop $1500+ on the Sig 556 and the ammo? I wish I had $2k+ to go drop at the gun store when getting my first handgun. Just my 2 cents nateroach
