NoXD Rails?

I was at a Houston Gun Show today trying to sell my 27-cause I want another XD. Have a XDSC 9 and was telling this gun guy how much better I liked it over the G-27.

He said, through his toothless tobacco stained lips, that he was a gunsmith and XD frames have no stainless steel rails like G's do.

Well I checked my XD and the slide rides on the top of the locking block and the ejector top. It also rides front and back on built up solid looking polymer areas.

So what if the gun only lasts 8-10K rounds-that's more than I'll ever use it in 5 lifetimes.

Just talk positive about something and there's someone gotta rip you a new one, specially at gun shows. What a bunch of creeps.

I think if you'll look around somewhere on this board there's a article that was written up by a gun rag and the 20,000 rnd test they did to it...they did'nt start the actual test until the XD had 17,500 rnds ran through it. there were no malfunctions....no excessive wear on the frame or anything else, no parts breaking, they beat the living hell out of it. It still ran, and ran very well. I'd say the toothless "gunsmith" did'nt what he was talking about. So, I'd say the XD will last much longer than 8-10,000 rnds. No stainless rails? big deal, If I'm not mistaken,(and it's possible) aren't the rails on a Glock made from sheet metal anyway? how are these better than the solid steel locking block?? Looking at mine, I think the rails at the front and back act mostly as a guide, all of the wear is going to be in the locking block which also give the slide the most support.

the xd uses like you said the locking block and the ejector the rear polymer rails dont provide much support if any. the locking block on the xd is THICK! so i dont see those wearing out after any number of rounds. the xd is a service pistol and the tolerances are loose so even after x number of thousands of rounds the wear isnt going to effect the reliability of the pistol. it "might" effect the accuracy to a measurable degree but nothing the average shoot IMO will notice, if you are shooting high precision target shooting you might notice it but if your shoot comps like that enough to wear them out you really shouldnt choose any service pistol but instead should choose a target/race gun that has those tight tolerances (which odds are you will have all the spare parts you need)
im not saying the xd cant be used for comps im just saying there are better choices
