Registering a new XD

When I go to pick up my xd9 service in a couple weeks do i have to register on the website? or does the dealer have some type of auto registration for me? i want my gun to be registered incase its ever stolen so i can call the cops and be cleared incase something happens.

I think I mailed my registration in.
You might want to take some good photos of it with the serial number visible and file them away with the receipt
That way your will have your receipt (it should have the serial number it as well) and photos of the pistol in case it does get stolen.
It is also good to have photos of all your valuables in a safe deposit box or fireproof safe for insurance purposes (theft, fire, etc..).

As such, there is no formal registration
except the 4473 that your dealer keeps
on file for his own records. He is not
obligated nor required to check his records
for date of sale of a particular firearm.

My suggestion is that you keep a catalog
of your own firearm serial numbers and
firearm description.

I believe that BATF still provides an
'inventory' card for ones own use to
record such data.

It sure helps if a firearm is stolen or lost.
