Porting an xd40sc

Can you do this to an XD40SC and still use it reliably as a SD weapon

I dont know about that type of porting, but you could get one of these barrels (they are about 3/4" longer than the stock barrel, so the porting is infront of the slide, so you dont need to do anything to the slide.

I dont have one yet, but my guess is that since the porting is behind the sight it also would avoid the sight getting dirty as well.

I own and carry an XD 40SC everyday and wouldn't think of doing that to mine.I don't know if that is ported or if it was done to lighten the slide those holes look pretty big.

Be aware that if you port in that manner you will be flash blinded with the first shot you fire in the dark.

I would not recommend you do that to a carry gun, holes that large are potential collection point for dirt, lint and other things that can easily create malfunctions at the wrong time. Though porting can be of some value in competition guns there is very little to be gained by porting a self defense gun. During a situation where you may be required to use your carry weapon you will have to depend on the skills you developed during practice sessions as you will be functioning on adrenalin and probably will not even notice the guns recoil. It would be more beneficial for you to develop proper gun handling than to make changes to your gun. Learn to shoot using either hand, one handed, practice getting the gun quickly on target. These things will be of far greater value.
