14# recoil spring too lite for XD9 tactical
Took my XD9 out to the range today to play with different recoil spring weights. I have been using the 19# spring with Don's Guide Rod for several months now. I also have a 16# and a 14# spring which I tried today, to see how it affected recoil, etc. Well, started with the 16# spring. Put a box of 115gr Blazer Brass through it, no problem. It felt a little snappier and possibly a little less recoil than the 19# one. Put the 14# spring, ran a mag or two through it then it stuck in slide lock. I dropped the mag and the round in the chamber and couldn't believe what I saw. The barrel was in front of the trigger block! The slide was jammed and wouldn't move forward or backward more than a few millimeters. Another fella and I tried to get it unjammed with no luck. So I took it to a local gunsmith and he carefully hammered it out. I couldn't see if he hammered the slide forward or the barrel back. Anyway, he said it was way too lite a spring for it. I put the 19# back in and went back to the range. 100+ rounds later, no problems. I was too hesitant to put the 16# back in because I didn't want to be an idiot should it jam again. I have a match in a week and a half and didn't want to screw up my gun.
Anyone else have this problem?

I use a 14# spring in my 45Tac with WWB target loads 185gr
But in my experience I have never had a problem. No lock backs, nothing. I actually want to try a lighter one since there is some PPC 45 ammo at my work that won't even cycle the 14#er. I know crazy huh. I love the 14# spring. Your shooting production right? Try the Winchester White Box 9mm version of what I use. No power factor but 115gr min, is that right? A little more expensive but I would say try some then only get it for the matches. Anyway good luck man.
