XD trigger to glock trigger.
So lately ive been looking at a competition gun. The two that keep coming up are the XD9 Tactical and the Glock 17.
Both guns had their pros and cons and i would be happy either until.... i pulled the trigger. My XD trigger has no hang ups or "creep" in the pull at all. Its just like my G26. This XD9 was terrible! The trigger would come together nicely and then you hit a hard spot in it. It would tighten then jump back a little. It honestly reminded me of a Sigma. Is this some sort of new trigger for XD's? The salesman mentioned getting a trigger job, but my (lack of) understanding is that trigger jobs take weight out of the pull. I dont really want that, i just want it to be like a Glock or my XD45. Plus, i dont want to dump money in a new gun to fix what i feel is allready broken. I have the XD on lay-a-way and have 30 days to make my decision, help please! |

thats what i was assuming, My XD is nothing like that. Id almost go as far to say, my XD's trigger is smoother than my glocks! (thank God this inst on Glocktalk)

You have obviously experienced good triggers on XDs, so just try a different XD9. I have two and the triggers are very similar, and very good.

My tactical 9 XD has the best out of box factory trigger of the 3 XDs that I now own.
My best trigger is on a Tactical 40 which was returned to Factory for a carry job. Awesome and with new fitted barrel is extremely naccurate. I would compare triggers if possible, then buy based on smoothness of trigger pull. Shoot often and accurate Hillbilly Jim |

First all XD triggers smooth out considerably after about 500 rounds and you can improve that by doing a fluff and buff on the internal parts. It will also give you a understanding of how the XD trigger works. While you have it apart get the Powder River Safety Lever Kit and a set of Canyon Creek Springs. You will now have a really competitive XD for very little additional cost and an understanding of how the gun works. If you do not feel comfortable doing that, send it to one of the fine XD gunsmiths who support this web site and have them do a competition tune for you. The basic XD design will always produce a better trigger than the Glock design. Yes there are tons of aftermarket parts for Glock but to do a real trigger job on a Glock is more expensive than what is now available for the XDs.

I've done a fair amount of trigger work or my XD and Glock and I can say without fear of contradiction, the XD trigger design should be better stock (if not, it's an aberration), and it can be made MUCH better than a Glock with a little work. Glock triggers can be made passable, but XD's can be worked to get a very light, sharp breaking trigger. Impossible for Glock because the striker pulls the firing pin spring as you pull the trigger. The XD firing pin spring is fully cocked by the slide, all you do with the trigger pull is release the sear (which a Glock does not have BTW).

When trying to decide between these two guns, or assessing any trigger system, in addition to the smoothness of pull which you've already indicated that you're checking, I'd recommend also looking at the other characteristics of the trigger. For me, the distance the trigger must move forward to reset after each shot and how noticeable the reset is are two of the most important characteristics in determining how accurately I can shoot a handgun at speed.
Just my two cents' worth. |
