Agreed, when I tumbled rocks with my gandfather some would come out pretty beat up instead of polished and I wouldn't want to risk that with my barrel.

I ve tried tumbling a barrel just to see how it would turn out. Its far too fine of a tumbling media to do anything though. You would probably have to tumble it for a couple of weeks to get it to look decent. Tumbling rocks takes months of time to get them polished. Tumbling with other aggressive medias is probably an option. But not worth the time again, as I am sure it would take forever to get it anywhere vs what you can do with a buff wheel and compounds.

Pulled it out of the brass tumbler this morning.... bbl is gray. The feed ramp is nice and shine to it. So it looks like I'll have to get some medium polish paste to finish the 1st step and then a fine paste to finish it off. Show you some pics later today.

ok... here are the pics

Man.... I put in 2-3 hrs of polishing... not going to far.
After 3-4 hrs in the tumbler. Longest bbl is the one in the tumbler... backup 45 tactical bbl.

After 2-3 hrs of polishing with compounds.

I'm trying sanding next... starting with 200 grit... 320... then 400 and last 600.
Anyone have any other suggestions? Where can I get the right polishing compounds?? I'm using a dremel with a pad.... What else can I do?

wow that a lot of time and little result. Not tring to bash on your project but it seem like guys on here usually get it all done by then. I heard on this forum that heavy metal polish works well.

Metal Polish, Chrome Polish, Heavy Metal Polish, Deep Chrome Polish, Cotton Metal Polish, Fast Finish Polishing Ball

i knocked most of the factory finish off mine with 1000 grit wet sandpaper and then the green Heavy Metal polish w/ dremel & felt pad and had it nice and shiny in about an hour.
