If you ever have to use your weapon against a person, you should shoot to "Stop" the aggression being brought against you and shoot for "Center Mass" as that is the largest part of a person. If you are justified in using your weapon and the bad guy dies, thats unfortunate but that is a side affect of shooting someone. I will guarantee that he will not be trying to shoot you in the leg. If you are going to carry a gun you better be prepared to use it and understand that the person you shoot may die, if you are not ready for that don't carry a gun.

the side effect of shooting someone doesn't have to be death and I don't think the purpose of a gun is to kill. I think if I gun has to be used, one can use it without killing someone. I know that person may be attempting to shoot me or harm me in some way with no regaurd to my life but I am not like that person in this respect, if I try to kill him just as he is trying to kill me, I am no better. Taking a life, any life, is not a good thing. I'm not saying that I wouldn't if I had to, I wouldn't have a problem with it if it were the only option but I will try to avoid it whenever possible.

The problem with "winging" someone or shooting them in the leg so you don't have to kill them is that your not EFEECTIVELY stopping the threat. So lets say a BG draws on you...instead of using the most effective means possible to stop the threat you aim for the leg and hit. The BG is down but doesn't give up and starts shooting. You're not only endangering your life but the lives of any civilians around the area. So now you have one BG who can't walk and a dead mother and child who was running away, but thank God you didn't take a life.

Another flaw to "winging" someone is its too much thinking during a streesful situation. Its much easier to train someone to point and shoot COM and live with the demons later. Something else to think about...the limbs are much smaller and less likely to act as a backstop as COM. what if you go to shoot the BGs arm and it glances off the bone and hits a bystander? I do not wish to shoot anyone either, but please re-evaluate your position on this, especially if your going into LE. Your sworn to serve the people, do whats best for them.

DO NOT GO INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT ! With that attitude you will get either yourself or your partner killed. If your duty pistol leaves the holster you have to be willing to use it. In a high stress situation you have to go for the biggest target area or you will miss. Trick shooting while someone is trying to kill you will get you killed! The one golden rule in Law Enforcement is that you and your partner make it home alive at the end of your shift. Plus what are you going to shoot for if the person shooting at you was in a vehicle. Ankle holsters are fine if you are a investigator or Hostage negotiator but are slow and cumbersome plus in a foot chase there is always the chance you could loose it then wind up in the headlines because a pistol registered to you is used in a crime. Not worth the hassels. Chose a differant career field bud or go into internet crime investigations I'm sure the computer geeks will be impressed with all of your martial arts belts.

some people are very rude here, I don't think such mean people should be able to own firearms. I think if it were up to me, I'd require some sort of test to measure the amount of aggression and anger a person can have towards another person because I think if it's too much, it can lead to something terrible happening. And I AM going into law enforcement, it's practically a done deal already. In a previous post I was talking about how I don't wish to kill anyone so I would be more prone to shoothing them in the legs or arms/shoulders but what I didn't say is I would only do this after I assesed the situation (such as level of danger for others and myself) I wouldn't try to shoot someone in the arm or leg if he or she were shooting around a public area where children and such could be shot and killed, in that situtation, I'd shoot to take him out most effectively and with no chance of missing. I practice every day and I am a good shot but there is always room for error no matter how good someone is and I realize this and I know there is no room for error when it comes the safty of innocient people. So I don't mean to say I will only shoot someone in the leg or arm all the time, only if I think I can do it without endangering others. I can just as quickly shoot someone in the arm or legs as I can there head or chest and it's often just as effective in stopping them, at least enough to stop them from potentially killing or hurting anyone. I practice with fbi and police, I can even shoot a guys gun out of his hand, even right in his barrel if he's less than 30 feet away from me. I'm not conserned with what people say or think if they are just going to be negative. I'm not going to get upset or get angry, I don't do either of those, what gets me angry is when people get hurt by others. I even get angry at myself if I can't neutrilize a person without hurting him badly. That doesn't mean I don't have what it takes to do the job, I'm just not all gun-ho about killing and inflicting unnessarcy pain and I'm not trigger happy, my gun isn't what keeps me alive, it's using my head that does and trusting my own feelings. The police and gov. agencies know how I feel and think, yet they still want me so I don't think I'm crazy.

+1 on that!

The real question is, Can he do this after drawing from his ankle holster?

I've got news for you junior most of us mean guys that are ripping on you are Vetran or Retired Police Officers. You are nieve if you believe all the crap you are spouting. If you truely train with the FBI you must be along for comic relief. Grow up your talking to people who have been there and done that and you better learn to have a mean streak or you will be chewed up and spit out on the street.

I can act mean to people, I can be intimidating if I want to, I have before sometimes but I won't really feel anger, it's probably due to martial arts training. I'm more effective at resolving or neutilizing a situation if I'm calm and clear-headed anyway. People who get angry can make more mistakes I think.
