OK, so it's the pad on your finger that hurts...not the nail?
If so, it sounds to me like the trigger is somehow getting caught when the slide returns to battery and is "slapping" your finger. I agree with the others though. I would send it back to Springfield. Maybe first though have someone else shoot it and see if they experience the same problem. This should not be caused by the caliber of the XD. If someone else had this problem, it might be caused by a machine slightly out of spec and the tolerance too wide and thus a batch of them have this problem.

I've had 2 other people shoot it and both say the same thing. I will give Springfield a call tomorrow.

well, i know were talking about XD's but now that i think about it, when i had both a Glock 23 and 32 i would shoot no more than a couple rounds and my trigger finger would start hurting...i thing the main reason for that was that crappy "serrated" trigger that the compact glocks have...
maybe something is wrong with your XD...wouldnt hurt to send it in

I had another similar type firearm, not an XD, that would do the same thing. It kind of felt like the trigger was slapping the pad of my trigger finger and the pad of my trigger finger would be sore after about 15 or 20 rounds. Upon looking closely at the trigger safety, I found a small ridge of flash in the center of the trigger safety. I took a small piece of wet or dry sandpaper and sanded the ridge down flush with the surface. My problem was solved. The trigger would still slap the pad of my trigger finger sometimes, but it no longer made my finger sore.

I cleaned up the trigger safety a little and moved my finger up off the end. I don't notice the biting anymore.

I haven't heard of this with XD's but have first hand experience with Glock's a 23 and 35. My trigger finger just below the pad would be pinched/slapped. It seem to happen no matter where I positioned my finger on the trigger. My friend is not effected by it at all and when I shoot a G19 or G17 the problem doesn't exist.
SA will make it right; if it happens to multiple people something is wrong.

I noticed this when I started shooting my XD SC .40. It turns out the corner of my finger was on the very tip of the trigger, so I moved my finger slightly up on the trigger and have had no problems since.

Mine's at Springfield right now for the very same thing. I just sent it at the end of last week so haven't heard anything back yet. I figured since it was under warranty I might as well have them fix it properly.

When I first got my 45compact, the trigger was pinching my trigger finger between itself and the bottom of the trigger guard. I did a similar thing as has been mentioned already by very lightly filing out a tiny bit of material from the trigger guard in the spot, and smoothing it out. I used a fingernail file. Rough side to remove material, smooth side to finish it off.
It sounds like you may possibly be getting some "slapback" too? If that is the case, I don't know if this solution would work, and I'd send it back to SA, but it's something that might help if it is just pinching. |
