Sight solutions please... gunsmiths are most welcome to chime in
Ok, my CCPR 45 Tac has the flush mount Bomar adjustable rear and the fiber optic front. The range I shoot at is dimly lit and my home is dark at night when I might need to use the thing for it's intended purpose... saving my children from the evil that men do. I would like to put in a night sight on the front, that's the easy part.
The rear just does not work for me. Edges sharp enough to open you up and a sight picture that just doesn't do it for me. The welded in Bomar is the thing that is probably going to hurt the worst. Will I have to have the Bomar removed and steel welded back in, then have a traditional cut machined into it? Anyone seen any options for sights that might fit my scenario?

I was faced with the same problem on my wife's XD9 Tac. BoMar rear, fiber optic front, but she(and I) really didn't like the sights at our range. We wanted something easer to see. I'm sure someone has tried to do what you suggested (although I haven't read any posts that did that), but I took the easy way out. I sold the XD9Tac to a forum member, and bought another XD9 with TFO sights already installed. Love the sights, very bright day or night. I already had the TFO sights on 3 other XD45s, and it only took about 1 week to complete all the transactions. Worked for us

well it sucks that you had to sell your gun to fix the sight issue. i spoke with Rich at CC and he said the best bet would be to try to replace the rear blade. after doing some research today, it looks like the rear blade is thicker for the tritium inserts. due to the nature of the install, i don't think there is any room in front of the blade to install a thicker one. i spoke with Xpress about their Bo-mar version of the Big Dot and was told that even if I could machine off the dovetails on the bottom of the sight to get it to mount flat like Rich did, the front is likely not tall enough to ever get the gun to zero. this seriously sux balls.
i have tried to sell this thing for a very long time and have been unable. i would love this thing for the true gem that it is if i only had a sight that i liked. it has become a safe queen because i detest that rear sight. huge, flat, black and i have a very hard time finding the front due to the size and color of the rear. very frustrating... wish one of the gurus would chime in here on how they would fix this thing

Don't know this one as I've never had to take any of mine off. Might want to ask over on 1911 forum. One of those guys would know for sure.
