Refinishing a Sub Compact XD 40 to SS

I'm not sure where to post this but.....does anyopne know about refinishing a slide on a XD. My question is....I have a XD 40 SC in all black and I'm wanting to get the slide refinished in SS. Can this be done and would it be cheaper in the long run to just by a new 40 SC?

SS as in stainless steel?

That's not an option, as the black slide isn't stainless steel and the slides on the bi-tone models are.

You can re-finish it with a coating that LOOKS like stainless, but I'd probably just sell yours and buy a bi-tone model to get an actual stainless slide.

It can be done and is done very often. You can have the slide and all the metal parts hard chromed. The finish is very tough, Tripp Research does it and is the best around, all though they are fixing to stop in a couple of months. You can send it off to Springer, Springfield, Canyon Creek to name a few.

This was done by Tripp a few years ago and it's still like new.

Theres a big difference between stainless and chrome.Stainless is the metal.Chrome is a metal plating.
I do like the hard chrome option though.I think that my od .40 would look extremely sweet with a hard chrome slide.

Whats it usually cost to get a slide hard chromed?

Trip charges 185 for all metal parts including barrel and 155 excluding barrel.
