xd sub 9mm conversion
I have a sub-compact in a .40 S@W. I love the gun would prefer it in a 9mm. The .40 in sub does not track worth a crap and has more barrel flip and bite than any .40 that I have ever fired. don't get me wwriong, I love the sub-compact. I want to continue to carry it but I would rathe have a weapon that does not punch me in the teeth and allow faster follow ups.
Does anyone know of a conversion kit to make the .40S@W into a 9mm? Or... |

not sure if going 9mm will solve that issue. I own a service and SC in both 9mm and the SC definately has more recoil (lighter) and more noise. I think thats normal for using a smaller version of the same pistol.

xd sub 9mm conversion
The . 40 is the same pistol as the 9. I shot both on Saturday but the difference in tracking and follow-up shots are astounding. I would trade the .40 in for a 9mm in a heartbeat if I could. I'm not saying the a pro couldn't be as eefective on the 9 vs .40. I;m simply saying that I am not.

guns hold their resale very well, another option to consider is to sell the .40 used and purchase a 9mm. Doing a conversion kit may cost you more depending on the cost. 9mm is also cheaper to shoot then .40, that always a plus.
There was a thread that showed the extractors of the XDs of various calibers and I remember seeing there were differences in the parts b/t different calibers. I know for sure its not just a barrel swap.

If I remember correctly, some people have experienced minor reliability issues with the conversion barrels. This minor issue at the range could prove to be a major issue in a defensive situation. If I were you, I would try and trade your .40 for a 9mm, or sell yours and then buy a 9mm SC. I wouldn't want to rely on the conversion barrel for a carry piece...

However, you can get EFK conversion barrels at xdguys.com. If you don’t mind, please allow me to give a little suggestion. How long have you had the xd40 subcompact? I have heard some concerns about recoil etc. I would suggest that if you hadn’t had the gun that long, give it some time. I am not an experienced shooter but I can handle the gun just fine and have no problems doing double taps, etc. I find the gun is very accurate to be so small. If you still do not like it sell it or trade it for a 9mm. I don’t know for sure but it may be that with a little time you will learn to handle the gun and love it. Again, this is just a suggestion and something to consider.

If I were in your shoes, I would sell your .40 SC and get the 9 SC. While a conversion may be nice for a range gun, I wouldn't trust my life to one. If you sell your .40 privately, you shouldn't take much of a hit on your new 9.

I have owned the gun for 3 months and have lamented over this decision. I think that the .40 is a great self defense round but my inability to track with it using the XD-sub makes me pretty slow shooter. The .40 sub in my opinioin (speaking for myself) does not track well.
Though I do carry, I like something that I can take to the range and practice with. The recoils is very sharp and uncomfortable but I could live with that if I were able to track back to my target fast enough. I can do this with other .40's. I was comparing to a sig p229 and though much bigger, I could easily track and follow up my shots. I appreciate everyones input. keep it coming. I think I'm going to try to sell./trade my .40 for the 9. but if you guys have other thoughts/advice , I'm all ears. Thanks again. |

Your ability to hit the targert always take precedence over the "better" caliber. Rent the 9 and if you shoot better with it, then go for it. If you don't shoot better with the 9, maybe you just need some more practice with the 40.

I sold my 40 when I found a barely used 9 at the local gunstore. Amazing difference shooting.
