I believe the answer you're looking for here is "Both."

At least, I hope that's the answer you all will give me if I ever ask your advice on buying guns.
The answer is always yes.

I've got the XD40 Service and a 642. I find I often carry the 642 because it is so much easier. I use a Mika Round Cut pocket holster, and it disappears when I drop it in the front pocket. Cooler weather and jackets/vests will allow more frequent carry of the XD IWB.

The 642 is on me right now, along with two speed strips carrying the extra rounds.

xd 9 vs s&w 642

started off with a 380 bersa- totally unsat- went to the s&w 642 with ct laser grip- easily concealed in even a suit pant pocket -- but as was said previously on this tread- shooting it for a while at the range 50-100 rounds can make ones hand sting.
Got a xd9 subcompact, also with ct laser grip, to better enjoy shooting and in case i wanted to carry a gun with more than a 5 rounds the xd has 10 and 16 round mags.
So far it is the 642 that I carry since i can just slip it in to a front pocket using desantis pocket holster. the desanits as compared to an uncle mike's remains in ones pocket and doesn't come out with the 642 as the uncle mikes does.

I was leaning towards buying a 442/642 till I actually compared the two side by side. I don't think there is enough difference in size to warrant it.

Compared to the XD? Maybe your XD went on a diet cause mine is fat as hell compared to my S&W.
