I just returned from taking my brand new XD-9 for it's first practice. I am really disappointed, because it jammed several times loading cartridges, and ejecting spent cartridges both. Also, only twice did the slide lock back after the last cartridge was ejected. I tried 3 different brands of ammo, and that made not difference. Totally I shot about 50 rounds.
I had heard about how good this pistol, but now I'm a little skeptical. Is this gun defective, or is it normal for a new gun? I am going to call Springfield Armory on Monday, and/or take it back to the gun shop I purchased it from last week. Can someone who's had more experience with the XD enlighten me as to what's going on with my gun? |

what kinda ammo were you using. Used to use Monarch but had spotty performance, shot 400 rounds of WWB or UMC and no problems

spotty ammo may do that (though i've never had that problem), and limp wristed shooting could do that.

Okay, I'm a newbie with the semi-auto, so help me out here. Explain the "limp wristed shooting" comment for me. I thought I was firm with the grip. I shot a Glock 17 a couple of weeks ago, and I didn't have one problem shooting a box of one of the ammos I shot today. Does it have to do with the XD's grip safety device being depressed, or possibly not depressed enough?

Also, how are you holding the gun? If the slide isnt locking back after the last round, you might have your thumb on the slide release. A lot of people do that without realizing it. Its easy to do.

I've shot about 1300 rounds through my xd9sc and not once had a single issue with assorted ammo. I would think something is wrong with it.

For XD's the smallest amout of movement upward during or right after the bang causes the casing to be caught(stove pipe). In most cases... 99% of the time its a limp wrist. To fix the problem you must in my opinion apply more force or pressure from the none trigger hand to the grip. Creating more pressure to the none trigger hand which pushs into the trigger hand. This applied pressure forces the wrist to stay down and not go up or to do a muzzle flip. Also the non trigger hand keeps the muzzle down for second quick shots. Some people call it the push pull method. Pulling the non trigger hand (60-80% pressure) into the pushing trigger hand (40-20% pressure). Good luck... Oh by the way when I first got my XD I had the same problem put after practicing 300-700 rounds I got it to go away using the push pull method. I forgot to say it also keeps my trigger finger from moving so much... I stop shooting low and to the left. Again practice practice practice.

I just went and held the gun as I feel comfortable, and while unlikely that I was interfearing with the slide release, I can't be sure what I was doing at the range.
I think I had better go back to the range, and try again. This time paying more attention to the details of my grip. The push-pull technique sounds like it's worth a try too. I like this gun, and I don't want to deal with getting it fixed, exchanged, or replaced. |

1. visually check the ramp to make sure there are no burrs it could be hanging up on. If you see any contact your gunshop or SA 2. let someone else shoot a magazine through it to see it it is just you. 3. take it to the gunshop you bought it at and have them check it. 4. contact SA, if it's a problem with the gun they will make it right, Don't give up on your XD, it's the finest shooting gun you will ever own
