I don't know what target you're trying to hit, but If you haven't already, try shooting at a piece of cardboard or poster board that is about 3 square feet.
Aim for the center and see where your point of impact is. |

I had problems like this when I got my XD. It may be a Point of Aim issue. I found I was shooting low as I was aiming for center right above the front sight. Try moving your sight picture up a little bit.
