Grip Safety

Funny thing happened the other day.

I was in a large outdoor store and was hanging out over by the firearms. I was talking to a guy who was looking to buy his first pistol. I had the store employee pull out an XD and went all through the pistol, showing him why I love it.

The employee said he did not mind the XD, but if he owned one he would put electrical tape on the grip safety. He told me that if he needs the pistol for defense he does not have to worry about having a proper grip on the pistol and that he was experienced enough to shoot without having to have his thumb around the back strap.

Now, I understand why someone might not want a grip safety, but how on earth do you justify it by saying you are experienced enough to quickly draw and fire with a horrible grip! The last thing I want are bullets flying out with me barley holding onto the weapon.

Anyone have any thoughts?

where does he put his thumb? If he didn't have his thumb around the back strap, how does he get leverage to pull the trigger?

I think that I would have called the owner or the sales manager over and asked for him to repeat what he just said.

He's not only a danger to himself, but to everybody else, especially an inexperienced customer that knows even less and may be influenced by this very ignorant character!

He's a potential "Darwin Award" winner. I say, "Get him out of the gene pool as soon as possible!"

Was he a self professed Mall Ninja. I hate ID10T's. The grip safety was put there for a reason. Would he do the same to a 1911. If he even knows what one is.

That individual should not be any where near a firearm. Let alone be counseling new buyers and giving them suggestions.

Jimmy rig the grip safety!??? I still can't believe it. Some people's kids.....

I dont see it being any safer or more of a hassle. its just there. cause when yuo are holstering your weapon IE, where most inncidents occur. you have ahold of the grip anyways.
