After messing with my XDM, You don't even need a high-hand grip to get the grip safety engaged. I can hold the gun loosely very low, and as long as the grip safety is slightly depressed, it fires.

I really don't see how you could fire this gun at all without pressing the grip safety unless you had it upside down and pulled the trigger with your little finger.

I try to maintain a high grip on my XD Tactical. I found that sometimes I had an issue with the grip safety. It never failed to fire, but I felt that it might. More operator failure perhaps. When I sent it off to Rich at CC I had him add some metal to the back of the grip safety. Maybe 3/16" or so. Now I am confidant that it will be depressed even with a high grip.

I did not think of this myself, I believe I'd seen a posting here mentioning the modification.
