xd stock sights
Are the sights on the xd9 sevice drift adjustable? By drift adjustable i mean are they designed to move abit to the left or right if needed and if so what is the correct way to do it without causing damage to the gun?

The sights are drift adjustable--some XD's take a very "heavy" hand to get them to move. Moved mine with a good 1/4" brass punch, hammer and block of wood to support the slide. On the back sight there should be lines on either side of the sight so you can see if you've budged it.

There is a sight adjustment tool that a gunsmith would have. Basically is a small screw press that mounts to the gun and pushes the sight over. I've seen some guys that have used punches on sights before... Usually ends up making a mark on the sight.
Does anyone know how much it would cost to have a gunsmith push over a sight? Wouldn't think it would be to much.

Never have heard what a smith charges to drift sights, but one possible problem is that a smith can't tell when point of impact has changed correctly for the shooter.
If one uses a good brass punch, marks are pretty easily removed. I like the ones from Brownells with the interchangable tips--they give you a good knurled steel handle to hold and smack with a hammer but allow you to use a variety of punch tips in brass, steel, or nylon. Also, you can purchase the sight pusher tool from Pistogear for $99: PISTOLGEAR | YOUR ONE-STOP SHOP FOR ALL SPRINGFIELD XD I wish this had existed when I changed my front sight! |

You may find that your smiths in your area don't have the XD sight pusher, I know mine don't. If you are wanting to drift your sights I recommend using a soft tipped punch.

While it is true that, they are already set for majority of people + ammo combo, it cannot cover everyone and their ammo choice. Depending your physique and shooting style the sight will need small adjustments to make it just perfect for the shooter in question.
