Do any OEM XD parts require fitting, or are all "drop-in"?
With some pistols, replacing parts can require "fitting" by a knowledgable skilled person. Here I'm thinking of, as an example, replacing a thumb safety or extractor (among other parts) on a 1911.
With other pistol designs all the parts are "drop-in"; that is, an OEM replacement part will function properly without any alteration of the part. Where does the XD stand with respect to this? Are all its parts "drop-in"? If not, which would require fitting? Extractor? Sear? Thanks in advance for your answers. |

There are very few OEM XD parts
available. Simply because SA will not provide them. Some fire control parts and barrels of aftermarket manufacture are avail- ble through some of this forums sponsors. Ed

SA is starting to release more parts though. Check out some of our forum sponsors to see what is available. I know that XD Guys and Pistol Gear carry most, if not all parts that SA makes available.

Guys, thanks for replying. I roger what you said about very limited availability of OEM parts. Are the aftermarket parts that are available (particularly fire control parts) drop-in or do they require fitting?
Maybe a better way to put my question is: Does replacing or upgrading parts on an XD require a gunsmith's efforts to approximately the same extent ala the 1911, or can all (or almost all) parts be dropped in ala the Glock? |

The Springer sear drops in without fitting, their trigger bar does require gunsmith fit. Most of the drop-in barrels will not need fitting, some will. |

As far as I know, the only auto pistol that has all drop in factory parts is a Glock and all the parts (except the frame) are available to anyone.
Hopefully, this will eventually become the case for XD too. I think most of the factory parts for the XD probably would drop in, they just aren't for sale yet.
