Whats new about the 2008 XD's?

Well i will have the money to buy my first gun ever by mid may, which i've decided will be the XD9 Service. I'm on the website and i noticed they have some new color schemes and a manual thumb safety.. i wonder if by the time i go to purchase my XD if these will be out in the gun shops? are there any other changes i should know about that would make me want to buy a 2008 model, or keep me from buying a 2008 and stay with a 2007?
how effective are the thumb safetys? anything!?!? thanks in advance!?!

also i just noticed on the website it only lists the xd45 with the thumb safety? do they not have any of the other calibers with the thumb safety>?
and why in the hell dont they list any prices?!

They will be available with or without the manual safety, go with whichever you feel most comfortable with using.

Only the XD45 will be available with the thumb safety.

And they don't list prices because list prices on guns are like list prices on cars.

I don't own any guns. Guns are evil.

I handled an XD-45 with thumb safety at the local gun shop the other day. If I were buying an XD and the thumb safety were available I would buy one.

Like Cannibul said, the new thumb safety is only available on the 45 right now. You won't find a 9mm Service with one. The only thing new to the 9mm Service would be finding one in one of the new Bi-Tone colors. There aren't any other differences between 2006+.

Thats a good question. When you go to a gun shop, how do you know which year/model you are getting.

I wouldnt - nothing with two safeties that exist already.
(I say this with the idea this is my carry piece.)

ask to see the box, and in the box will be an envelope with a spent test casing in it. the envelope will be dated, as to when it was test fired. and subsequently give you an estimate of when it left the factory.

i personally dont like manual safeties but some people do. i think its great they are offering it. but if your getting a xd in a color setup that has been available there wont be any difference between 2006+ and 2008.

if you do want to know i would call SA and give them the S/N
