Its a personal preference with the thumb sagety. I personally bought an XD bc there was 2 other safeties and NO thumb safety. Thats also why I carry it as a CCW, bc if the S*&T ever hits the fan, god forbid, and I have to use the weapon I dont want to have to fool around with the safety. Too many officers, soldiers and civilians have been hurt or worse bc of that exact situation. Unless you drill constantly on drawing and disengaging the safety, then you run the risk of not getting the it off in time to effectively deploy the weapon when needed. Thats my VERY HUMBLE opinion.

I was surprised, but I had a shell casing inside of my box with a date of March for my new XD-45 w/ thumb safety.

Maybe that could be the way that you could tell for sure.

To anyone who uses the shell envelope to date their XD. Be aware that the date is in the day/month/year format and not the month/day/year format more commonly used in the US.

I carry a Glock 22 on duty as a police officer and I am glad we have no manual safety's. This is just my $.02 . Try the XD without a manual safety , I have the XD-9 Service for my concealed carry weapon and love it . Awesome pistol.
I see what you did there.

Yeah, i called a shop today and he said they have to order the 40sc from spring field cause they never have one in stock.
Thats pretty common. The 40 is much harder to find than the 9 in the sub usually. I bought mine from a chain, and they actually had their gunsmith bring one over from a location on the other side of town for me.

Of course that was a while ago, since I bought mine with the smart people, not all the current bandwagon jumpers! No offense meant to the more recent converts, but some of us saw this one coming a long time ago.

I have the 45 compact too, both are great CC guns.
