you can scratch it, but it will still resist rust very well, even if it has a scratch. you think you cant scratch a glock?

You probably didn't actually scratch the slide. More than likely, whatever "scratched it" actually rubbed off onto your slide. Chances are, your slide is a harder metal than whatever "scratched" it. And a 5 year old Glock with no slide wear/scratches sounds like a safe queen.

I purchased my XD 45 Service model about three months ago, my Glock 22 just last month, and alternate carrying both of them via IWB Comp-Tac Minotaur holsters. However, given the newness of both pistols, neither one shows any sign of wear. Two very nice pistols, IMO...

*From what I've read/been told* the melonite/tennifer finish is applied to the carbon steel itself. You aren't going to remove these coatings easily. The black color is just a cosmetic coating that even when scratched, worn by holsters, or intentionally rubbed off to apply other cosmetic finishes does not remove the tennifer/melonite coating from the steel and it will still protect from rust. But I am no expert in steel either =/
