There was an article in a handgun magazine about the difference between the the XD and the Glock and how the XD is always half cocked a little more than the glock. I forget where it is. Then this guy says that the XD might not be as safe because your hand cant get to the grip safety in all situations. (Not being able to fire in a gunfight is unsafe). Random posts pop up here and there on forums about how unsafe it is compared to the glock.

I'm glad I asked. That kind of "unsafe" is a lot different than what I thought you meant. I was thinking more like unsafe due to mechanical failure, or that it was too easy for negligent discharge.

I personnally like the grip safety, but if you don't, and you are afraid of not being able to shoot, you can disable it.

I like it, I dont know how to safely fire the gun withuot covering it and absolutely no effort is required to push it down on theXDs I have shot.

I have HEARD from glock people that the XD firing pin setup is a little different from the Glocks and that makes it unsafe becasue it is supposedly always partially cocked and could fire on its own. When I ask if there are any reports of it or what they think about glock KBs they get pissed and change the subject.

Those who use that line of argument probably do not understand that the Glock is also partially cocked (1/3 back) when the slide is racked. So that argument also unwittingly works against Glock. A release of a Glock striker from that 1/3 position due to mechanical failure is potentially just as explosive as it would be on an XD.

I carry a glock at work but prefer the xd and that is what I carry at home and out and about on my own time. Several things I like about the xd over the glock is it the grip angle, the forward serration on the slide for press checks, the round chambered indicator, and the cocked detent. Anybody who has done a press check on a glock in the dark can definetly appreciate the round chambered indicator and the cocked detent.

Glad to own the XD!!

Guys,
I am glad most of you enjoyed the review. I did alot of research before buying my 9mm subbie. I have alot of friends as most of you do that own a glock, for me I am a concealed carrrier and I really like the high points of the xd myself and also I did not want to be like the rest of the people. At the time there seemed to be more glock owners than xd and I knew if I went to the range with my buddies I could shoot their glock so I decided to go with the XD and am VERY PROUD I did. XD ROCKS !!!!!!

I recently sold a perfect G19 after buying an XD-9 Service. When I decided to shoot IDPA and wanted to compete in the SSP class, I had to go out an buy another Glock (another topic).

I like them both for what they are. The Glock is my practice and competition pistol, the XD is my personal protection pistol. Overall, I like the XD better. I think I shoot the XD better, and it has some nice features over the Glock. I even like the added safety features. But I trust them both.

If I weren't competing, I would buy another XD for all the added features, quality and PRICE.

Several of the guys in our local pistol club shoot and like XDs in the ESP class. I may shoot in that class too, eventually.

There is enough room in the world for both.
