XD40 pistols are built on the XD9 platform. Not the XD45 platform. So if you put a bigger round in a platform designed for a smaller round you get less rounds.
Clear?

Melonite
Melonite is a VERY tough and long lasting metal treatment. It is very good against rust. Bluing is another treatment - very nice looking, but VERy thin on wear. It is perhaps the easiest finish to have rub off, and then rust.

The "platform" is the same, the 45 Service just has a slightly longer grip than the 40S&W just as the 45 Compact has a shorter grip than the 45Tactical.

I've done this a hundred times already. The only size difference is right below the trigger guard where it is slightly longer between the frontstrap and backstrap on the 45. INTERNALLY the 45 is different, not externally.
