got it, i looked at springfield armory site and they say that in the 5" guns, the .45 is 5.75 in height and the .40 S&W is 5.5, this means the .45 IS 1/4 of an inch longer in the grip.

However, on another thread on here, I believe someone measured across the slides on a .40, a .45, and a .45 1911. The XD45 was 1.281 across the slide, the XD40 was 1.27 something, IIRC, and the 1911 was even narrower than that. So, according to this guy, the slides are not the same on the XD40 vs. XD45. |

you can fit 16 rounds of 40 s&w in a 45 service mag.
the outside measurements of the 45 frame isnt a big difference the difference is on the inside the 9mm,40 frame walls are much thicker then the walls of the 45. this is why you hear alot of people wanting a 40 on a 45 frame (me included) haveing 16+1 rounds of 40 would be bad a$$ |

oh and to your question about grip size and if you can feel the difference
i can notice a difference between the two but its not that much at all. if a 40 or 9mm fits you hand then the 45 should, but if the grip of the 9mm/40 frame is allready at the max of fitting you hand then a 45 MIGHT not fit. but the measurements arent that different but it is noticable |

I have an XD9sc and an XD45 compact.
I did measurements on every grip angle I could find. I found them to be the same size as far as thickness, width, front-strap to back-strap (top and bottom of grip) and any other measurement I could think of. I know there are differences in the grip length (DUH) but I can't find any width differences. There must be a difference in size since there are two different sizes of CT laser grips for the XD. One for any pistol but the XD45ACP, and one for the XD45ACP. I know I missed something somewhere. Can someone PLEASE tell me where the difference is in the grip is between the two pistols? Sorry if this off topic but yall are already discussing it here, and I can't figure it out..
