I just bought the XD-40SC and put around 100 rounds through it within the first 2 days ... very impressed.

I am a short ( 5'8 ) small framed guy that has always been a little recoil shy. Coming off of my SW40 service model, I can honestly say that I have better control with the XD-40 Subcompact .... I thought surely the recoil would be a bit worse with the shorter barrel, but thanks to far superior design, it isn't. In fact, I grouped better both times out this past week than I ever did with my SW. I am EXTREMELY happy that I didn't go "down" to a 9mm like I had originally planned.

I have not ever used a ported barrel so I can't honestly tell you it is a good or bad idea. I considered it to help control recoil, but was talked out of it by more than one dealer as they all said it really doesn't help much and in near dark situations it can temporarily blind you (again, don't know about any of this - I've never used one). My thought ... why would dealers talk me out of a handgun that would surely get them a little more profit?

My ONLY gripe with the XD is the quality of the finish. The flat top of my barrel is already getting worn. I read that the under side of the slide that contacts the barrel often has a rough edge that can easily be sanded down to decrease the wear ... I am going to have it refinished with TG-1 from Mac's Shootin Irons anyways and they said they would smooth it for me if they found the problem (even they said its common in XDs).

For a carry piece, I highly recommend the XD-40SC .... small, accurate, controllable (is that a word??) ... I just hope I never have to use it for it's intended purpose

Just my 7 cents (inflation).
