AIR CAVALRY UNIT group purchase
Gentlemen,
There has been much discussion in my particular unit about getting a "deployment" memento firearm or knife with our troop logo/callsign and dates deployed engraved on it. One of the firearms we are looking at is the XD9SC. I have contacted Springfield Armory and while they said they could not give us a group discount they could complete the engravings for us. Has anyone done anything like this and would anyone be willing to handle the transfer of XD9SC's at a group discount? Also, has anyone ever used the Springfield Armory custom engraving service or does anyone have a recommendation as to a particular business that could engrave the firearm? While the SC has very limited area to work with we were thinking about the top of the slide just in front of the rear sight and,or possibly the top of the barrel chamber. Thank you, Alpha Fox |

BTW, I would recommend getting the engraving on the top of the slide as opposed to the barrel. The barrel will develop a LOT more wear over the life of the firearm vs. the slide.

AlphaFox, I remember when you came on
board. Welcome back and thank you for your continued service to this great nation. May I suggest that you approach an FFL dealer in your area and make this proposal to him. It might be something like this: Mr. FFL dealer, my buds and I have chosen the SA XD9sc as a group project. We want to purchase xx number of XDs and also want to have them engraved by the factory with our logo. Will you help us out? Mr. FFL dealer will say, "sure, I can do that". Please remember that on a special order, the FFL dealer will want his money upfront before he orders anything. At this juncture you can use some leverage and start to bargin. Personally, I buy from my FFL at his cost plus 10% and I pay shipping. I am sure that an FFL will take you guys up on a deal. Just bargin with him...if not him, go to another. Just make sure he is from a tongue of good report. Wish you guys well and please post anything you purchase when you get it. Ed

Thank you.
Thank you all for your comments. The honor is all mine.
We have an individual in our Troop whose Dad is a FFL holder and I believe we will be going though him to make the purchase. We have not quite settled on the XD9SC as of yet... Other contenders are: 1858 New Army Remington Black Powder pistols in .44 caliber Winchester 1894 Carbine in either .357, .44mag, or 45LC 1873 Cavalry Model in .357, or 45LC 1911 45ACP Most of the troopers want something they can use for practicality hence the XD9SC... Of course I wonder where they got the idea since I am spearheading the purchase and tell everyone at every chance how much I love my XD45 Service. Anyone have any engraved photos to share? -AF |

Out of your list, I would chose the XD first and a 1911 second. Keep us up to date on this "project", I would love to see the finished product!
