If you're shooting an XD, you're ESP by default... Extended mag release or not. If they're classifying you SSP without it, then they're classifying you incorrectly.

yep, you're right.
i thought i was gonna sneak in under the "safe action" trigger pull. but i just got off the phone and it wouldn't fly.

i'm going for my orientation on tuesday night.

funny thing about the mag release.
I had my XD for about 2 weeks before i got the extended release.
i still dont use it if i'm in a hurry. i keep using my middle finger of my strong hand

but even with ESP, the rules say that
"9. Extended magazine release (button may not be oversized in diameter or protrude more than .2" out from the frame)"

so it looks like I still have to take it off.

It depends on which release button you're using. The Canyon Creek and Springer Precision buttons are ESP legal, as long as you don't have one of the big head ones.

Or just grind it down till it is legal.

I have never found the need for one though.

No no. You're thinking about this the wrong way. Keep the release, add a magwell and shoot it in L10 in USPSA. Then, go buy another XD to use in IDPA and Production division in USPA!!!!

i have small girly hands, I couldn't even touch the stock release with my thumb. let alone actually drop the mag unless I rotated the gun 90 degrees from my palm.
totally letting go of my grip. i got in the habbit of using my middle finger of my right hand to press the right side of the release.
i can just barely press the extended release with my thumb.

i somehow dont think the little woman would agree with your logic,
especially since i just spent my play money on a shotgun.

i feel if i come home with another firearm within the next 12 months, will result in a trip to the emergency room for me

I cannot touch the mag release either with my thumb. I have to shift the gun as well.
