Firsat Impression of XD 45
Didn't have much time to shoot today. Only ran 65 rounds through it. Found the trigger pull to be a lot lomger than the last Glock 30/21 that I've owned, but it was very very accurate rihgt out the box. That is not te part that impressed me most........ my 14yr old son was with me and wanted to try his hand at it. I very rearly let him or any of my children shoot, but I do so it'll take the facination out and add the education into firearms handeling. Anyway, I was surprised at how well my son was able to adapt and control his shot placement. ...... He could not do this same thing with any of my Glocks and this is as far back as three months ago. The weapon may have a longer pull and this was evedanced by my son almost throwing his shot at the target, but at twenty feet he called a head shot and darned if he didn't get it. I noticed myself that the recoil was soft. And there was not any misfeeding at all. This was done with regular practice ammo I had laying around. Better than a Glock? I won't say better, but I will say it would be easier for somneone new to polymer 45 ACP's to master. Time to run saome hollow point ammo through it. Next up is some Remmington Express Subsonic ammo next week.

XD's need about 500 rounds to break it in. Then things get smooth and the trigger pull in my opinion is shorter then a Glock 17. My brother-n-law got a new Glock 17 last week and went shooting with it a couple days later... it felt like I had to pull teeth to get it to fire. Made it hard to shoot even from a rest. Just my 2 cents.

I have heard that it is best to run 500 or 1000 rounds of FMJ through it so that the feed ramp kinda gets "polished" a bit before it will reliably feed hollow points. Dont know this to be true though.

It'll have 700 rounds through it by the end of the month.

If you don't want to go in a polish things yourself the XD will be a different gun after about 500 rounds. The burrs and rough edges will be worn down and it will function much smoother. Sounds like your son enjoyed shooting maybe you should consider letting him do more or get him involved with one of the youth organizations. We need young people who know and respect firearms and not think of them a toys they see on TV. We sure are not going to get them of TV or out of the news and the will need someone of their generation to stand up for their 2nd amendment rights. Wow I didn't mean to go all political on you.

Never had a problem with either of my XD's and them eating what I feed them. They both seem to always spit it out the other end without a hitch.
Love the XD's
