The End All on 9MM's
well guys, ive been doing research for about a year now on and off, i was really intent on getting a 45 caliber xd. however being a college student and not having the money to spend the higher amount on 45 ammo, im going to opt for the 9mm, for several reasons. 9mm ammo is half the price of the 45, im going to be heading down probably weekly to practice at the range with my friends this summer, and i can forsee myself saving the price of an entire hand gun over the course of the summer by way of ammo expense, choosing the 9mm over the 45. On the issue of self defense, ive dont extensive research and spoken with people ranging from friends and family to police and SWAT officers, and it seems pretty consistant in their response to my question, 45 or 9mm? the response being something along these lines, "the 45 will drop a man with a shot or two, but so will a 9mm if you have nice shot placement." therefore i consider myself a pretty decent shot and only plan on improving over the summer. i feel confident in defending myself with a 9mm, also you get alot more rounds in each clip

Lets not start a caliber debate. Get what you want and carry it. Remember that a SD situation is not standing on a firing line putting bullets into a paper target on a range.

All the major calibers will work well if you put the bullet in the right place, if you don't nothing short of a howitzer will work.

I carry a XD9sc loaded with Federal HST 147gr JHP's. I have no concern what will happen to the BG should he take a couple of rounds.
But it is about shot placement, shot placement, shot placement, not bullet diameter. A .22 in the eye is more effective than a .45 in the arm. To get your shot placement you just have to practice, practice, practice!

Not to jack the thread BUT I wanted to add to that, The Grendel p-30 is a known "hitman" weapon. I read a story about them once that was pretty neat. They're ugly guns but their capabilities make up for it. *grendel p-30 is a 30 rounds IN THE HANDLE .22mag. I'd rather be relying on this than a 13 round 45 or 16 round 9mm in a life threatening situation. |

9mm is plenty of stopping power. Like I say, a missed shot with a .45 is not better then a missed shot with a 9mm. Place the shots and you're fine with just about anything in my opinion. I'm a college student as well and practice A LOT. You are much better off going with the 9mm and practicing your heart out. Get the .45 down the road and all the trigger time on the 9mm will help out too (that's my plan atleast
