Just putting my two cents in, as a fellow college student I agree that a 9mm is better in the fact that it is cheaper to train with, has less recoil and would due the job just fine if placed where it needs to be. I also agree that a .45 would due the job better simply b/c it is a larger round but the determining factor for me was the cost of ammunition and the fact that I simply shot better with a 9mm than a .45 at the time. Now that is not to say that I wont be getting a 1911 in a .45 very very soon but all I tell people is that they should shoot the largest caliber that they can shoot comfortably and accurately. As far as a .40 caliber goes my view on that is that you get more recoil than a 9mm without getting the size of a 45.

[quote=ForTehNguyen;1022579]shot placement >>>>>>>>>> caliber, the preferred caliber of hitmen is the .22 for a reason[/quote
Mostly because hitmen work by surprise . A bullet to the back (or front ) of the head. And because a suppressor works better on a sub sonic( the preferred ammo) .22. I might add that human feces in the hollow point covered by a bit of wax adds to the lethality if a head shot is not taken.

Crapping in a bullet is supposed to make it more lethal?

...I don't even know what to say except DAMN!

Humor me, why do you propose that crapping on a bullet is going to make it more lethal?

i bought the xd40 service model! my thought process was that i was getting a nice compromise between the 9mm and the 45! i love my 40 to death and will never get rid of it! however, i also am in college and i like to shoot ALOT and i realize now that i should have gone with the 9mm for my first pistol and gotten the 40 later on down the road! o well! whats done is done! i love my 40 but the 9 is on my list when i have the funds! what i did do tho, was the other day i bought a browning buck mark for a great deal (237 out the door) and plan on doing some plinkin with it since i can shoot .22 for days for very cheap!

from my experience i would urge u too go with the 9mm and if u decide u would like a larger caliber, get it later on down the road!

Where is that dead horse? Anyways, since all your "research" has led you to shot placement, a .22 will get you way more rounds than 9mm. Maybe 10x as many. I don't think people are digging on you because of your situation but because you claim to have found the definite answer to an ongoing debate without any data. END ALL .

Just enjoy the shoot.

my goal was for everyone to list the pros and cons of the 9mm, perhaps i should have just posted that in original post in hind sight. i listed several thoughts on the 9mm, the ammo is cheap, which means i can practice for a longer time each time i go and go more often. as a college student with a small amount of income i dont have money to drop nearly 20 and up on a box of 45 ammo. and shot placement, thats where everyone says it counts.. so im saying with a 9mm i can defend myself jut as well as if i had a 45, as long as i place my shots.

9mm and the 45acp have been around for almost 100 years with the same debate. Choose your weapon.....??? Which ever fits my hand works the best for me. If I could carry my 10mm I would.
