compact weapons
Hello,
I was going to be in the market for a new compact pistol and I am kinda new to guns in general. I already have an XD .45ACP service and I wanted to know who makes the best compact in your opinion keeping in mind that I really don't have a huge budget. Thanks. |

I don't know anything about compacts (other than the .38+p revolver that I own), but I can welcome you to the forum from Texas!

It depends on how much money you want to spend. I have an XD45C 4" which is fairly compact, however I am thinking about something slightly smaller for carrying during the Summer, but bigger than my PPK. At the moment I'm leaning towards an XD40SC, however there are a couple of Kimber Compacts in .40 S&W I also have my eye on, for about $200 more than an XD. They are also single stack, easier to conceal, but have less capacity than the XDSC. Are they $200 more easier to conceal?
There are also the Springfield Ultra Compacts in .45acp and the Micro Compacts in .45acp, 9mm and now .40S&W. Kimber has its Ultra Comps, which are very easy to conceal. There are also the small Para-Ordinace guns which are easily concealed, including some double stacks. These are just the guns I've shot, with the exception of the new SA EMP .40, which is just coming out. The best thing to do is decide what your budget is and then find a range where you can rent as many different guns as possible to find the one you want. Probably the best deal on the market is the Bersa 380 which is almost an exact clone of the Sig P230/P232, at about 1/3 the cost, and extremely reliable. Welcome to the forum. Are you against a sub-compact XD for any reason? That would be a great option.

I am not against the compact XD's. I had just figured that since I already had an XD that I would take a look at something else out there. However I do realize that my XD and the compact XDs aren't the same guns which is why I haven't ruled them out (plus I really like my XD compared to the other pistols that I have shot). I just wasn't too familiar with what was out there and didn't know if there was another company that makes a good compact/sub compact that wouldn't put an enormous dent in my wallet.

If you really like your XD, then stick with them. That's what I did, and the trigger time on one basically translates to the other

You have received a bunch of good replies so far, but I'll add another "Welcome to the XD forum" and emphasis on one thought that was already stated. I like the S&W 642 .38+ Airweight for pocket carry (under 18 oz., loaded), especially with summer wear. I got a new one for $400.00 (with tax) at my local dealer, no discounts. I'm much more accurate at 5-yards-plus with the XD, but CCW is mostly for inside of that range. The S&W makes for a great, reliable, "Oh $hit" gun. It's VERY concealable with only a pocket holster!

I love the XD9mmSC and the PT-145 MilPro. Great pistols to shot and for HD.

I chose my XDSC over the glocks, sigs, and tauruses.

I love my XD40SC. I like it over my FEG 380. (walter PPK clone) I actualy find my XD40SC easier to CC and more comfortable. If the FEG 380 wasn't my first ever gun, I would be selling it to rais money for another XD, sadly I just can't sell my first gun.
