New Owner, barrel question.
Went out and got my first XD today. The .40 with 4" non-ported. My question is this. When the slide is locked back and the barrel is exposed, the barrel is at an obvious up-turned angle. I've never noticed this on my other handguns before. I thought maybe it was because the gun is meant to be aimed with the "6 o'clock" method.
Is this normal? The barrel is clearly not parallel with the rest of the gun. This is my first XD so I didn't just want to jump to the conclusion that something was wrong. Thank you in advance. I searched the forums and came up with nothing. |

It's nothing to worry about. That's the way it was made.
I have the very same model (2 of them), and it's been great. |

When the slide is forward in the ready to fire position the barrel is parallel. When the slide racks to toss the spent round and bring in a new round the rear of the barrel pivots down,, bringing the front you are seeing up..
Its just how it works lol.. Cycle the slide (gun unloaded) and watch the action of the pistol work. |

Thank you all for the quick answers. I did notice the barrel was parallel in the ready to fire position, just didn't know if the up angle was normal with the slide back. I tend to go over my guns and rifles with a fine-toothed-comb when I first get them, so I just wanted to be sure. This is my new "night stand" gun, so I probably won't take my hands off of it until I am comfortable with it even in the dark.
Thanks again. P.S. glad I found this forum, seems like a great source of info, and a lot of active people. |

This is a Glock, but the principle is the same.
The barrel must ramp to unlock from battery and allow the slide to clear it. This also dips the feed ramp lower for more positive feeding. |
